About

I am a mixed media artist from Rugby, Warwickshire. My journey to painting began in secondary school with the encouragement of my art teacher, Mr R, with my passion for art leading to me studying History of Art at the University of Birmingham. Following graduation, I pursued a number of different career paths but none of them quite felt right and took me further away from what truly made me happy. It wasn't until I experienced some difficult life events that affected my mental wellbeing and meant I was unable to work that I revisited my love of painting as a form of therapy and I haven't looked back since.

Artist Statement

I paint colourful, intuitive abstract paintings that are inspired by my love of Gerhard Richter's palette knife paintings. Much as he explored colour and texture in his work and using layers of paint to create depth and interest, I enjoy experimenting in the same way and using numerous painting tools as a break from the routine of my everyday life.

After laying down layers of bright colour, I experiment with various layers and shades of colour to create depth in my work. I use various tools such as palette knives, spatulas, brushes and oil pastel to disrupt the layers of paint, whether that's by scratching in, scraping back or layering on more paint in order to reveal the forms that create the final composition. The final pieces juxtapose different colours and textures as a form of emotional exploration and give the viewer a sense of connection to a personal story.
